The first reported attack on a doctor by the Drugs Department was in 1975 with the arrest of
Dr. Sumathy of Calicut and they kept her in jail for not having a Drug Licence.

Dr. Abdul Wahab, Pathuma Nursing Home, Mathilakam, Trichur Dist. was the victim on 29.11.1986. The Drugs Inspector Mr. V. N. Raveendran with the help of three policemen ransacked the dispensary of Dr. Wahab and treated him like a criminal. The Inspector was acting under Section 22, Chapter IV of the Drugs Act, 1940, ignorant of the fact that Rule 123, Part XI of the Drug Rules exempts a Registered Medical Practitioner from the provisions of Chapter IV.
A drug under whatever schedule may it be will be useless and worthless unless and until prescribed by the Medical Practitioner or in other words the drug gets activated only after the prescription
